Living in Pain
Dr. Kristin wrote a report and gave it to Dr. Wittmann who was supposed to continue monitoring my case.
By mid-July 1997, I decided that since the pain wasn't showing any sign of going away, I might as well get on with my life regardless.
I went back to the gym, having gained about sixteen pounds during the eight weeks of my odyssey through doctor's waiting rooms and treatment rooms and slowly began to get rid of those again (this sounds worse than it looked, but the extra weight bothered me immensely).
And as I grew tired of people constantly asking about my health, I decided to write this account for all to read.
After writing the whole story down in two sittings, the pain began to worsen again. To say the least, this was a great disappointment.
I began to doubt the medication was doing any good [besides keeping our red wine reserves intact - remember, no alcohol allowed together with Carbium] and whether neuralgia was actually whatís plagueing me.
Then, on the last week-end in August 1997, I decided to "quit" and stopped taking the medicine.
This worked fine for a couple of days, but on September 1st the Pain came back with a vengeance. I am using capital letters for the Pain because it was every bit as awful as it was before I began to take the pills.
This lead me to two conclusions:
The pill actually numbed the pain somewhat. I.e.: it couldíve been worse.
The pill didnít "cure" the pain, it only gave me some release.
I decided I really needed a vacation.
NEXT: SHINGLE BELLS.
A surprised doctor: "Only very stressed-out people get shingles."
